For this memoir narrative project, I decided to write about my sister’s death and the time leading up to it. Her passing was a significant moment that set my life onto a completely new path than it was on before. I’ve written about my memoir story before, on my own accord, just to get it out onto paper and out of my own head, but I’ve never written it down to be shared with others.
In previous classes that I’ve taken, I’ve never really been asked to write about myself and when I was, I didn’t truly write anything meaningful. In my Blog Post #3: Composing an Emotional Scene, I wrote about the birth of my son and what a whirlwind of emotions it was for me, such as anger, happiness, sadness and bliss. In Blog Post #4: Composing an Emotional Scene with Dialogue and Symbolism, I wrote about the death of my friend, Brian, and why it was so hard and unfair on my friends and me. In Blog Post #5: A Wizard of Oz Journey, I examined my memoir and analyzed how my memoir allows the reader to travel into my heard, mind, and what high-stakes risks I took in my writing. My story happened so long ago that I was used to telling it and I didn't struggle to share it when I decided to. The last time I shared the story with someone was back in 2016, before I became a mom and while writing and reliving it, I found myself being affected in an entirely new way, seeing now from a mother's perspective.
