My name is Jessica Rush, I am 23 years old. I am a mama of two amazing babies. My oldest, Cosmo, will be 2 in November (2019) and my daughter, Julie, was just born on August 21 (2019). My house is also occupied by my boyfriend and our giant pitbull-mastiff, Zongo. When I used to have spare time, before becoming a mother, going to school, and working, I used to like to crochet, paint, and photography (primarily film). I originally started college to get my BFA after high school, but I was too broke to continue. I also play guitar and I love traveling (driving) to new places to explore. When you're a breastfeeding mom of a newborn, you learn to live your life in 2-4 hour increments, which makes it hard to squeeze a lot of extracurricular activities into.
I was born on Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio, Texas. From San Antonio, I’ve lived in Raleigh, North Carolina, to Temple, Texas, to Bonlee, North Carolina, to Lafayette Hill, Pennsylvania to York, Pennsylvania then back to various towns all over the Philadelphia area.
When I was young teenager, I used to love to read (and sometimes write) but as I've gotten older, I have a lot less time in my day to sit down and do either. The only thing I have time to read is a news articles that I find on Facebook, Yahoo, newspapers, or from notifications I receive from the Washington Post, I also like to read song lyrics. As for when I was able to read books, I used to read anything that Ellen Hopkins came out with.
I love to listen to music. 90 percent of the time, I have music playing in the background with whatever I’m doing. I’ve got a thing for song lyrics. Some of my favorite composers are Otis Redding, Nahko Bear, Fleetwood Mac, Ray LaMontagne, Jose Gonzalez, Pink Floyd, Ween and Dave Mathews Band. They all have their own amazing way of composing beautiful lyrics that coincide with the music itself that create pure art. As Tom Waits said, “I like beautiful melodies telling me terrible things.”
When I was a tween-teenager, I used to do a good amount of writing. I never had any intention of ever sharing it. I mostly wrote as a type of therapy for myself. Just to be able to get thoughts out somewhere other than in my head. I've never been the type of person to share my thoughts with other people, so writing was really the only way I didn't feel trapped in my own head. For a while I also used to write down my crazy dreams. I've always had intensely vivid dreams that I always remembered when I woke up. I even was able to start lucid dreaming a few times by accident in the middle of dream. Nowadays, I rarely write unless it's for an assignment, if I have a super crazy dream, or if I just really need to get shit down.
